Dear Parent(s)/ Guardian(s),
Aloha, Hola, Bonjour, and hello. I want to welcome you into my Fifth-Grade Classroom. I am really looking forward to getting to know you during the 2023-2024 school year.
I hope everyone had a nice summer! Get ready to get back to learning. I am ecstatic for this school year and I am anticipating a productive school year for your scholar. I am excited to be teaching fifth grade this year here at DTPA. I taught fifth grade for four years here, moved to fourth grade for two years, and am now back to fifth grade. I am prepared for the 2023-2024 academic year to be full of exploration and new discoveries. I am looking forward to working with you and your scholar on all things fifth grade. It is my belief that scholars benefit greatly when a teacher and parent work together as a team. I welcome your questions, concerns, and suggestions.
Reading, Writing, Science, History and Math will be the core of the curriculum. This year we will need to work together to make sure your scholar can earn all the success possible. Below are our classroom policies. Please review and discuss with your scholar each of the policy and expectations.
Homework: Will be given on a daily and weekly basis. Scholars are expected to complete their homework daily. If you have questions about your child’s homework assignment, please leave me a note attached to the homework, contact me through Class Dojo (https://www.classdojo.com/ul/p/addKid?target=class&class=CXDPTEU) or send me an email (carole.milton@dtpacademy.com). Homework will reflect concepts and theories taught in class.
Attendance: To reach success your scholar will benefit from being in class every day and on time! Before your scholar attends school make sure they eat breakfast at home or arrive at school by 7:30 so they have enough time to eat here on campus. If your scholar does miss a day of school, they will need to complete an independent study assignment. School begins at 8:00 a.m. each day. Doors open at 7:45 every day. Monday’s school hours are 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Tuesday’s-Thursday’s hours are from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., and Friday’s 8:00 to 12:00. Scholars arriving after 8:15 a.m. will be marked tardy.
Classroom Behavior Routines: Each scholar will be responsible, respectful, and ready to learn daily. Scholars need to make wise choices throughout their day. Class incentives will be used to assist in making smart choices and positive behavior. P.R.I.D.E

Miscellaneous:
Please try to make sure that your scholar has a water bottle with their name on it daily, especial during these hot days. A snack is also very important for scholars to have daily. This will help a great deal with keeping them focused for learning.
Please make sure all your scholar’s personal items (lunch boxes, folders, jackets, and water bottles) have his/her name printed on it.
Also, please DO NOT send any toys or technology items with your scholar to school. Any items that distract from learning will be held and returned to scholars’ or parent/guardian at the appropriate time. Any non-educational item will be held by teacher and returned to parent.
All medicines ranging from cough drops, Chapstick and any other medicines will be maintained in the school office. Students will have access to all signed in medicines during the school day as needed.
It is my hope that we can work together with your scholar to make this upcoming school year a successful one. If you have any questions or concerns, PLEASE feel free to contact me. If you cannot speak to me in person, you can send me a message through my Dojo site, send a note to school with your scholar or email at carole.milton@dtpacademy.com. I will attempt to respond to any correspondence within 24 hours of receipt.
